Mass shooting at MLK Park in downtown Rochester

Around 2:40 AM officers from multiple police agencies, such as Rochester police officers New York State troopers and Monroe County sheriff deputies all responded to the scene of multiple people who had been shot at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.


Rochester Police Chief David Smith says after officers near MLK park heard gunshots, they went to the area and found a 33 year-old man with one gunshot wound to the lower body. Officers applied a tourniquet and he was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by an ambulance with a non-life-threatening injury.


6 people were shot at MLK Park. A 33 year-old male victim was treated at the scene and a 17-year-old male, an 18-year-old male, a 21-year-old male, a 25-year-old female and a 20-year-old female all were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. A man was also taken to jail after assaulting an officer at the scene.

Before the shots were fired, there was a large group of people gathering partying at the park.
