Fire at Abandoned Hotel on West Henrietta Road


On Sunday night around 5:25pm the Henrietta Fire Department responded to the abandoned Vista Heights Inn located on West Henrietta Road for a report of a fire. When firefighters arrived on scene, they noticed smoke and flames coming from the building. A second alarm was called and firefighters from the Brighton Fire Department along with Rochester Fire Department responded to the scene to assist the Henrietta Fire Department.


The fire was extinguished and a portion of the roof to the building was destroyed.


Monroe County Fire Bureau confirmed that there were two individuals squatting in the abandoned building. The two individuals, Colleen Edwards, 36, and Nicholas Eckhardt, 39, were charged with criminal trespass.


During the incident, one firefighter did suffer minor injuries.


The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
