Building fire on Portland Avenue injures one firefighter

Saturday at 12:45 A.M The Rochester Fire Department responded to 1162 Portland Avenue for a fire. When the fire crews arrived on scene there was heavy smoke coming from the building and flames. The fire was put out quickly. 11 people lived at the home at the time, all evacuated safely.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital for a minor eye injury.

Red Cross was on scene to assist the residents that lived in the apartment building.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation
