Black man dies in police custody in Rochester New York


Newly release body cam footage shows a man named Daniel Prube dying in police custody in Rochester New York. This incident originally occurred on March 23, 2020. Daniel Prube was hospitalized after the incident for seven days before being taken off life support.


On July 15, 2020 an executive order was signed by the Governor asking for the New York State Attorney General’s Office to investigate the incident.

The Rochester Police Department Chief and Mayor said the case is currently being investigated by the New York State Attorney General’s Office, and both criminal and internal investigations remain open at this time.


The family of Daniel Prude has filed a notice of claim against the city of Rochester.  They are also asking for all the officer’s involved in the incident back on March 23, 2020 to be fired.  Prude’s family is hoping for charges to be filed on a three of those officers.


The Prude family attorney in in possession of the body camera footage from the incident, which he states shows the decedent having a mental health crisis and him being arrested by police.
