On the scene of the officer down on Hudson a Clifford Avenue

The search continues this morning for the suspect that shot a Rochester Police officer. 

The officer, identified as 36-year-old Jeremy Nash, was shot in the face just after 10:40pm Saturday night. The shooting took place in the 1000 block of North Street near St. Jacob Street. Officer Nash was transported to Rochester General Hospital where he is currently in stable condition. Nash is an 11-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department. Mayor Lovely Warren says Officer Nash and his wife have a 3-week-old daughter. According to Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli, no suspect is in custody and a large tactical operation continues Sunday morning. SWAT teams and the state police helicopter are being used.

"We heard two, and then we just tried to drive away," said one witness to the attack. Mayor Lovely Warren and Deputy Mayor Cedric Alexander were at the hospital overnight meeting with the officer and his family. 

In a statement released early Sunday morning, Mayor Lovely Warren said this:

"Last night a Rochester police officer received serious injuries as a result of a shooting, which underscores the difficult and dangerous job our officers face on a daily basis," said Rochester Mayor Lovely A. Warren. "As we wait here at Rochester General Hospital for updates on his condition, I ask our entire community to pray for our wounded police officer and his family and to pray for all of our police officers who risk their lives on a daily basis doing a courageous job protecting our city and its citizens. I want to join Police Chief Ciminelli in asking anyone who might have information on this incident to contact the Rochester Police Department or call 9-1-1."

The scene of the shooting is not far from where officer Darryl Pierson was fatally shot in 2014.

A news conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday morning at the Public Safety Building.
