Soap Box Derby competition for City School students

Quad A for Kids afterschool program resumes its STEM Soap Box Derby competition for City School students culminating in the local races that took place on Saturday. Students from Schools No. 4, 41 and 34, who attend the Quad A for Kids afterschool program, have been learning and building their soap box cars since last fall.

Quad A for Kids offers programs for Rochester's urban youth outside the normal school hours in a safe environment with caring adults.

Everyone helped out each other i'm gonna give a big shout out to James Monroe high school and not just Quad helped out we all did.

STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, is the curriculum students are taught while building their racers. And now, they're able to apply the skills they've learned in the classroom in a fun, yet competitive fashion.

Two Rochester city school students placed in the top four in the country on May 20th in Akron, OH at the National STEM Race. Quad A for Kids is home to national champion Jaime Hernandez, a 9 year old 4th grader at School 41, and 4th place runner-up Dalia Lawrence, a 10 year old 5th grader at School 4 in the national STEM race's stock car division. They will be joined by nearly 70 more racers from Quad A for Kids on Saturday, June 3rd.
