18-year-old shot dead while in stolen car on Laser Street

The Rochester Police Department is working the death of an 18-year-old male on Laser Street and Joseph Avenue this morning.  

According to the Rochester Police Department, officers responded to the area after getting reports of shots fired. 

When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim inside a car that had crashed into a pole with a gunshot wound to his torso.  The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.  

Command Frank Umbrino with the Rochester Police Department stated that the vehicle was reported stolen from the Portland Avenue area earlier in the morning. The steering column of the vehicle had been broken.  

Umbrino stated "It's not helping these kids by letting them go within hours of us arresting them for a stolen car, they are out and stealing another vehicle that same day."  Umbrino stated that the criminal justice system needs to keep these children in jail for stealing cars.
